About the Institute... more                 Publications

Established in 1986 under the National Social Forestry Project, the Forestry Training Institute, Jaipur, lies amid a sprawling green campus in the heart of the city on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg. Two subsidiary campuses function from Jodhpur and Alwar providing regular training to foresters, forest guards and frontline staff.

Having come a long way since its inception, the F.T.I. today stands out as an excellent support centre and a forum for exposure to the new challenges emerging out of the changing role of forestry in the precariously placed 21st century environment. Balancing and managing the fast diminishing forest resources equitably along with ensuring sustainable livelihood security to people living in and around forested areas for generations in a demanding task. Coupled with the imminent threat from global warming and vanishing wild species of flora and fauna, the job of the forester has become singularly difficult. To train such a challenging force of individuals requires an equal amount of expertise and skill. The F.T.I. picked up the guantler and has been performing exceptionally well for over two decades. Unique in its approach and forward thinking in its ideas, the F.T.I. shares the expertise and experience of its faculty members not only with departmental officers but also with NGOs and school children.

The FTI believes in a holistic vision that never discounts the past, but at the same time, embraces the future with enormous confidence in the ability to shape it and harness its potentialities.
